Extrusion
our classic shaping process
The extrusion process …
… is a shaping method used to produce clay and ceramic bricks or blanks. This press is also called an extruder.
In extrusion (from the Latin “extrudere” meaning “to push out” or “to expel”), plastically deformable to viscous masses are continuously pressed out of a shaping opening (also called a nozzle) under pressure.
During extrusion or extrusion molding, …
… the clay is pressed through a nozzle, giving it the desired shape and exiting as a continuous strand, which is then separated into individual brick blanks by a cutting device. We have a screw press.
Processing
The finished bricks can already be recognized at this stage of production, but they are still larger than the final brick, as the blanks will undergo shrinkage due to the removal of water.
This process is carried out during the artificial drying of the bricks in drying chambers.
The further processing of our clinkers and clinker slips is done by firing in a ring kiln.
Clinker from the extrusion press
